Accelerated Reader

Neidig ARImage: Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a software program that gets children excited about reading. Here’s how it works: Children read books out of the library and then take a comprehension quiz on the computer. Depending how well they perform on the quiz, they can earn points. There are rewards along the way as the children continue reading and earning points, but the one reward they seldom realize is better reading ability! That’s the whole point behind the AR program. Better reading skills help test scores, grades in all subjects, and overall success in school. Teachers begin the year with a several reading tests that help determine each child’s reading level. This helps students find books that are on a level that will benefit each child individually. Elgin ISD has used this program for years and we feel it is a wonderful learning program for our students.
