Checkout Policies

Kindergarten students check out 1 book at a time.

1st-5th grade students check out 2 books at a time.

All books are due in 2 weeks.

There are no fines for late books, however, students will have to return the late book before checking out another.

Overdue notices are handed out weekly. This notice is to inform students, teachers and parents that a book is overdue and either needs to be found or paid for.

A student with a book that is 4 weeks late will receive a letter attached to the overdue notice with the cost of the book. Books need to be returned or paid for before the student may check out another one.

Any books not found or paid for by the end of the school year will carry over to the following year.

Flexible Scheduling

In an effort to implement an educational program where the library is fully integrated into the instructional program of the school, Neidig Elementary is using a flexible scheduling approach. In order for teachers, students and the librarian to collaborate on instructional projects, an open schedule is maintained rather than weekly classes. Kindergarten classes still come weekly for story-time and checkout. All other grades send up to 4 students at a time, anytime throughout the day, as often as their teacher allows. This works wonderfully with our AR program also, since students may come check out a new book as soon as they are finished with an old one. The library is open all day, so students and teachers are able to come to the library anytime during the day to use the information sources, to check out books, to read on their own, and to meet and work with other students and teachers. In this upcoming year we hope to implement collaborative projects between the teachers, students and librarian.

Parents

Parents are always welcome in the Neidig Library. If you'd like to help your child check out books, feel free to come by during the day or even after school. Teachers don't mind your child leaving class with you if you check with them for a convenient time. The library is open as long as Ms. Hinkle is at school. Also, parents can get their own library card with which to check out books to read with your children or read on your own! Parents may check out up to 10 books at any time, and all books are due in two weeks. Any overdue notices will go to your child's classroom to be sent home with your child. Email or call if you would like me to make you a library card. We would love to have you!

Volunteers

There are times throughout the year that our library needs volunteers. We have projects at different times, and we have Fall and Spring Book Fairs for which we need many parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping to decorate for or work at a Book Fair, work on special projects, or just shelve some of our never-ending carts of books, please contact Ms. Hinkle.  We would love to have more parents in the Neidig library!
